Introduction to Linux Operating System

Linux is an operating system. Just like Linux, Windows, Macintosh, and Android are operating systems, so Linux is also an OS.

An operating system is a software program. It is made up of several software programs. An operating system does all the work with the help of hardware. An operating system establishes communication between hardware and software.

Operating system identifies commands given by the user and implements it with the help of hardware. In addition to operating system hardware resources, saving user files, etc. also works.

Linux is a core operating system. Almost all functions in Linux are done by commands. Linux does not provide you much more graphical user interface.

They are covered by the graphical user interface (GUI) to make them more user-friendly, such as Windows and Mac, etc. However, they work just like all Linux on the core level.

By working with Linux, you will know how an operating system actually works. Because all functions in other popular operating systems are performed by GUI elements.

So the user does not know that in reality every GUI element (such as button etc.) is being executed as a command.

In Linux, you interact without any graphical user interface and interact with the main program kernel of the direct operating system.

There is a considerable similarity between Unix and Linux. It is believed that if you learn one of these two, then you can easily use the other. Linux has been designed to suit the Unix standards.

History of Linux Operating System

The Linux operating system was designed by Linus Torvalds. He was a computer science student and was rich in talent.

Linus Torvalds used to work on the Unix operating system only when he thought that some improvements were needed in Unix. They put this thing in front of Unix designer. Unix designers do not agree with the changes standards, they turned down the offer.

After this, Linus thought that an operating system can be created that correspond to the changes suggested by him.

After this, Linus created a single kernel based on the Unix operating system, which he named Linux. This was consistent with the changes suggested by the kernel Linus.

After this, he collaborated with many other programmers to develop some programs that were essential to implementing Linux. He took a little time in this work. From 1991 to 1992, Linux was launched in a working model market.

Linux was an open source without a commercial OS. This is the reason that Linux has become very popular in a short time. Today many distributions of Linux are available in the market.

Features of Linux Operating System

The Linux operating system comes with some important features that make it unique from other operating systems. These features are being described below.

Linux is Portable

Linux is a portable operating system. I.e. Linux works on many different hardware platforms in the same type. Some operating systems work only with certain hardware, so they are limited. But Linux can be used on all types of hardware platforms.

Linux is Open Source

Linux is an open source operating system. Linux code is freely available for download. Many communities and independent programmers work together to contribute to the development of Linux.

Linux is Multi-User Operating System

Linux is truly a multi-user operating system. Together many users can work on the same operating system and share resources such as memory and disk space.

Linux is Multi-programming Operating System

Like most of today’s most popular operating systems, Linux is also a multiprogramming operating system. Many applications can work together in Linux.

Linux is More Secure

Linux is more secure than other operating systems. All types of security features are available in Linux, from network security to user authentication and file encryption.

Linux Have Hierarchical File System

Files in Linux are organized in hierarchical order. It makes it easier and faster to access files and perform any type of operation with them. This is beneficial for programmers in many ways.

Linux Have Shell

Shell is available in Linux. Shell is a software program. You can interact with the operating system by Shell. The commands are used for this. Through Shell, you can get many types of work from the operating system. Such as opening programs and other operations etc.

  1. It is truly a nice and helpful piece of information. I am glad that you simply shared this helpful information with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my apple ipad and tested
to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so she can be
a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is entirely off topic but I had to share it with
    someone!
